Water shortages, restrictions in several Hungarian settlements!
Ten settlements in Pest County are facing temporary water shortages. Moreover, Jászberény also experiences issues with the water supply.
Water restrictions take effect
On Tuesday, the representative body of Jászberény decided to introduce water restrictions. – reports index.hu. In addition, between 6 am and 10 pm, they might order a watering ban in the town. According to Szoljon.hu, the water supplies of the city’s wells have decreased significantly due to the drought. Meanwhile, the demand for consumption has increased. According to the service provider, Jászberény needs an additional 1,200 cubic meters of water a day. That is why the town decided to drill a new well. In fact, the preparatory works have already started. However, if the current level of water consumption spikes, new regulations might be introduced to limit water usage.
Water shortages in Pest County
As portfolio.hu writes, water shortages affect several towns in Pest County, too. Pomáz, Solymár, Pilisborosjenő, Pilisvörösvár do not have enough water. In Pomáz, first-degree water restrictions have been ordered from Wednesday. According to the announcement, residents must use drinking water sparingly. In addition, it is forbidden to water the gardens, wash sidewalks and roads, operate automatic irrigation systems, wash vehicles and fill swimming pools between 6 am and 11 pm. In Solymár, the situation is largely similar. They ordered a first-degree water restriction from Wednesday to Friday at midnight. However, there is good news for the residents of Solymár: they can take a shower free of charge in the Gyarmati Dezső Swimming Pool on weekdays between 6 am and 8 am, and from 4 pm to 8 pm. On weekends, the showers of the swimming pool are accessible between 8 am and 8 pm.
“We cannot wash, drink or bathe”
A desperate local resident of Solymár told Index how severe the water shortage issue is. “Due to the heat, on the streets of Kerek Hill, water is not running anymore from the taps. There isn’t a single drop.”
“We cannot flush the toilet, nor can we wash, drink, or bathe.”
Tamás Menczer, the representative of the 2nd constituency of Pest County, shared the following message on Facebook: “According to experts, the reason [behind the water shortage] is the increased consumption triggered by the heat. I’ve spoken with Minister Gergely Gulyás, Bence Rétvári, State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior and General Zoltán Góra, Head of Disaster Management. I will do my best to alleviate the situation. Again, I would like to ask the people of Solymár who still have running water to use only the necessary amount, so that they can help others in need.”
